Portfolios also have another valuable and practical purpose for you:
- When you graduate, you cannot expect to be hired as a professional communicator if you can’t prove that you can do the work.
- All portfolios will be online in the form of a website. We will be using Weebly.com If you have the skills.
- Keep in mind that you’ll likely be using the site as part of your job application process, or graduate school application.
- As you progress through each semestr, it will be essential to get in the habit of keeping your website updated so the finished product when you reach your Senior Portfolio course, you will not need to work as hard to finish up your portfolio.
- You want to make your portfolio as as easy and complete as possible for the Honors administration to grade your portfolio. Be sure to keep things consistent throughout (how things open, types of files, etc.).
TIPS FOR BUILDING A GREAT PORTFOLIO
- Look at other Portfolios - This is always the first thing you should do when building any portfolio. Talk to yur friends and colleagues and ask them if they could take a look at your portfolio websites.
- A Portfolio is More than a resume. A resume is a simple description of your degrees, certifications, and experience. A Portoflio is an opportunity to present yourself to the graduate school you want to apply for and for your future employment journey.
- Keep it clean and simple. Overcrowded and cluttered portfolios are unappealing and hard to read. Keep the font consistent and simple.
- Show, Don't Tell! Talk about your educational journey, using pictures and videos or presentations that you developed for a grade in the courses that you particpated in.
- Showcase your growth. Show the ways in which you have grown from your freshman year to your senior year.
- Keep your Portfolio current and complete.
